Demanding immediate arrest of former Marshaghai BDO Susanta Kumar Pati and release of the people arrested on the charges of attacking him, members of the Kendrapada District Bar Association on Monday began their agitation by wearing black badges in courts.

“We have started our protest against arrest of innocent people in connection with former Marshaghai BDO assault case. We would hold a meeting with representatives of all political parties soon in order to take further course of action,” association secretary Nrushingha Charan Rout said.

He said the association would be forced to intensify its stir and go for a Kendrapada Bandh if the former BDO of Marshaghai is not arrested and police don’t stop arresting innocent people.

Notably, the Kendrapara Town police have arrested 14 persons, including  district president of the BJP, on the charges of attacking the BDO on April 18. The BDO, who has now been transferred from there, was alleged to have taken a Bolero-load of EVMs to his official residence at the lIC colony in Santasahi area under Kendrapad Township. Following this, an irate mob had attacked him and ransacked his residence. Pati’s wife had filed an FIR against nearly 600 persons in this connection.
