A dawn-to-dusk bandh on Saturday called by the District lawyers’ Association in Dhenkanal pressing for establishment of a Vigilance court and appointment of judges threw normal life out of gear.
The lawyers blocked roads at several places bringing vehicular movement to a grinding halt.
While heavy vehicles remained off roads, other commercial transport services were also badly hit. Besides, rail service was also disrupted due to the lawyers’ agitation.
Educational institutions were closed and commercial establishments kept their shutters down. However, the emergency services were spared from the purview of the bandh.
Security personnel were deployed at strategic places of the district to maintain law and order and avoid any untoward incident during the daylong shutdown.
