Lawyers’ issue: Cong seeks Guv intervention

Published on:

A  team of Congress leaders on Sunday submitted a memorandum to Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal here on the issue of lawyers’ strike and sought his early intervention for smooth functioning of courts that have been hit for over two months due to the agitation.

“Even if lawyers’ strike has closed 65 days, it is disappointing that the Chief Minister and the Law Minister have still sat silent. Common people are now facing difficulties in getting legal services as the High Court and lower courts have stopped functioning due to the strike,” mentioned the memorandum.

Cuttack Nagar Congress president Md Moquim, PCC vice-president Prof Kailas Acharya, Dr Debashish Patnaik, Shubhendu Mohanty, general secretary Bishwajit Das, Mahila Congress chief Sumitra Jena and  secretry Er Akash Bhuyan were in the delegation.

They alleged that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is working more as the president of the BJD than the Chief Minister of the State. Had the State Government taken an appropriate step, the lawyers’ issue could have been resolved,” they pointed out.
