In a terrifying incident, a Burla-based lawyer, Panchanan Das allegedly tried to mow down his brother-in-law Saumya Das with his car in the Sambalpur court premises on Monday.
Later, he was detained by the Town police for interrogation.
While Saumya was seriously injured as the car rammed into him, the boundary wall of the Sambalpur SP was also badly damaged. Some innocent people also suffered injuries. A herbal medicine seller’s two wheeler was also damaged in the incident.
Reports said the lawyer’s relationship with his wife had soured. So, in a bid to take revenge on his wife and her family, he wanted to kill his brother-in-law.

“We have detained the lawyer and he will be forwarded to court on Tuesday,” said Town police station IIC Prakash Karna . Both the families belong to Talcher and Kishorenagar of Angul district and they are staying in Burla at present, the IIC added.
As part of disciplinary action, the district bar association has served a show cause notice to Panchanan that why his membership would not be cancelled for such unruly activity in a public place.
