lawyer decries police inaction

When the new Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissioner of Police (CP) Dr Rajendra Prasad Sharma is stressing on prompt police action on complaints and speedy justice to complainants, his subordinates are not ready to abide by the policy.

According to Prasanta Varma, a lawyer practising in the Supreme Court, on the dead of night intervening September 5, six vandals attacked and broke the rear glass of his car standing in front of his house in the posh Saheed Nagar area.

“At the time of the incident, my wife and daughter were present at home. None turned up from the Commissionerate Police though they lodged the complaint to the police several times dialing 100,” Verma said.

Verma rued that though the Saheed Nagar police “proudly” registered a station diary in the case, they did not give any receipt of the complaint. He urged the CP to ensure justice to him, besides immediate legal action against the vandals.
