'laparoscopic surgery on babies globally popular'

Published on:

laparoscopic surgery in the paediatric population has become extremely popular worldwide, opined paediatric endoscopic surgeons at the 11th national conference of Paediatric Endoscopic Surgeons of India (PESI) that concluded at the IMS and Sum Hospital here on Sunday.

The surgeons spoke about the latest trends and techniques of minimal invasive surgery on babies.

“Though paediatric surgeons were initially slow to adopt laparascopic techniques, they now prefer to go for minimal invasive techniques in large numbers,” said paediatric surgeon Dr Bikash Bihari Tripathy at the Institute of Medical Sciences and Sum Hospital.

Inaugurating the meet, Finance Minister Pradip Kumar Amat said, “latest surgical techniques aiding minimal invasive surgery has helped in the treatment and speedy recovery of babies suffering from congenital and acquired ailments. But paediatric surgeons need to further enhance their knowledge and skill for the benefit of children,”

SOA University Vice-Chancellor Prof Amit Banerjee urged the paediatric surgeons to be extremely cautious and work with extreme commitment as they were dealing with children.  Top paediatric surgeons from the US, the UK, luxemburg and Poland also attended the conference.
