To put pressure on the State Government to implement the Orissa Official language Act 1954, thereby facilitating use of Odia as official language in Government correspondence, the Bhasa Suraksha Sammilani, fighting for the cause of Odia, has decided to intensify the agitation at the district and block levels.
The Sammilani in its State committee meeting held on Sunday suggested the Government to form specialist committee comprising experienced bureaucrat, educationist, linguist, judge and computer experts to suggest the Government or the Ministerial committee how to implement the Act.
Demanding immediate filling up of vacant Odia teacher posts in education institutions in the State Sammilani president and ruling BJD Rajya Sabha member Baishnab Parida said the announcement of a Ministerial committee to find out modalities for enforcement of the Act would solve no purpose.
“Only strong determination and meticulous planning can ensure implementation of Orissa Official language Act 954,” said Parida.
Among others, Sammilani advisory committee member Excise Minister Damodar Rout, renowned linguist Debi Prasanna Pattnayak and fromed Minister Biswabhusan Harichandan attended the meeting.
