The Bhasa Suraksha Sammilani introduced a mass inspection Abhiyan for the proper implementation of the Orissa Official language Act 1954, informed Sammilani president Baishnab Parida in a Press release on Monday.
Implementation of the Orissa Official language Act is a welcoming step, but for the proper use of the law, a language commission is necessary, demanded Parida.
“Though we have been demanding a language commission since August last, the State Government is yet to form it,” Parida said.
Following the convention which was held on August 23, the Sammilani has been creating awareness among the people about the use of the language Act, he informed.
The aim of the Abhiyan is to inspect the use of Odia language from the State Secretariat to the block-level Government offices, courts and municipalities etc, Parida said. Both the pressure from the general people and the State Government’s cooperation are necessary for the proper use of the language Act, he opined.
“We would also conduct seminars and meetings in this regard,” he informed.
The members of Sammilani would give their suggestions on how to rectify and implement the Act properly. They would also suggest forming a language commission and explain about its importance.
Parida said political parties, NGOs, journalists, intellectuals, lawyers, students and teachers should come forward to join the Abhiyan.
