Odisha Bhumihina Praja Samiti State president and BJP leader Er Debashisha Hota gheraoed the Dhenkanal Collectorate with supporters on Tuesday demanding land to the landless urban poor.
Earlier on the day, the Samiti took out a rally from the Dakhinakali area.
later, the district Collector called Hota and assured to fulfill all the demands. However, Hota pressed for a written assurance, what the Collector avoided. As such, about 10,000 landless supporters of Hota were squatting in front of the Collectorate till the report was filed.
Notably, on February 27, Hota had submitted a list landless people of Bhuban NAC, Kamakhyanagar NAC and Dhenkanal Municipality pressing for issuance of land patta under the Odisha Slum Dwellers’ land Right Act - 2017 at the Collector’s office. He had threatened to gherao the Collectorate from March 20 if the demands were not met.
Hota alleged that in Bhuban and Kamakhyanagar NACs and Dhenkanal Municipality, the law was not implemented in letter and spirit due to apathy of the concerned administrations.
