Financial assistance under the Krushak Assistance for Livelihood and Income Augmentation (KALIA) scheme would be provided to landless farmers of the State on February 5, informed Agriculture Department Principal Secretary Saurabh Garg on Tuesday.
An amount of Rs 5,000 each would be credited to the bank accounts of around 4 to 5 lakh landless farmers on February 5 through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode, said Garg.
Later on February 22, financial assistance of the same amount would be provided to around 14 lakh small and marginal farmers, he added.
Notably, as many as 12.45 lakh beneficiaries of the KALIA scheme have already received their first instalments of assistance on January 25.
Under the scheme, assistance of Rs 25,000 per farm family over five seasons will be provided to small and marginal farmers so that farmers can purchase inputs like seeds, fertilisers and pesticides and also use the assistance towards labour and other investments. The scheme is implemented from current Rabi season of 2018-19 onwards.
The scheme brings under its umbrella 92 per cent of cultivators of the State and almost all needy landless cultivators, who can avail its benefits through the DBT mode.
