With most political parties reaching at a consensus on ‘land to let’ provision at an all-party meeting convened recently to discuss the land acquisition and reform Bill, noted trade union leader Mayadhar Nayak on Sunday claimed that the concept was initiated by him and originated from Odisha.
“I suggested the Government to implement ‘land to let’ provision in the country from 2010. I also wrote a book land to let which was circulated to all Parliament members, members of State Assemblies, Judges of the High Courts and the Supreme Court, besides in 150 foreign countries. It is a matter of pride and honour for us that the proposed provision originated from Odisha.”
“The proposed law, which would regulate acquisition of land for industrial projects in India, is likely to be easily passed in Parliament with most political parties reaching at a consensus on its provisions,” said Nayak here at a Press conference.
“I hope the Government will bring the land Acquisition Bill, 2011 in Parliament when it resumes proceedings on Monday after a month-long break. Once approved, it will replace the colonial-era land Acquisition Act, 1894, which has been inadequate in meeting the needs of a rapidly-industrialising and urbanising India,” Nayak added. Mayadhar Nayak also urged the State Government to implement the proposed law retrospectively from the year 2000.
