Life has become miserable and cursed one for the two families of Giria village under Rajkanika police station. Since more than a month the families have been facing social ostracisation from the fellow villagers.
Recently, the victims have approached the district administration to provide justice to them.
The families of Purandar Lenka and Nalinikant Rout have been facing social ostracisation from the fellow villagers.
Purandar had a land dispute with his neighbour Ajit Kumar Lenka for last two years. In this regard, he earlier had moved the Executive Magistrate Court of Kendrapada and JMFC Court of Aul. The cases are sub judice now.
The village committee organised a meeting on the allegation of Ajit and directed Purandar to attend. The committee members later forced him to give signature on a consent letter in which the fellow villagers wrote that he would not oppose Ajit if he collected coconut on trees in the disputed land. But when Purandar opposed the village committee’s move and did not give his signature, the members of committee allegedly misbehaved with him using slangs and assaulted him along with imposing a social boycott.
When another villager, Nalinikanta Rout raised his voice against the one-sided decision of the committee and imposing a social boycott on Purandar’s family, he too faced the wrath of locals as the fellow villagers boycotted his family socially too.
“My family has been boycotted socially by the fellow villagers. Nobody talks with us. The village shops strictly deny any transactions with us. The villagers also have damaged water connection to my house,"alleged Purandar, adding that Nalinikant also faces a similar Fate.
“We have failed to graze our cattle outside the house. Being daily wagers , we failed to get work in the village. We have been leading a life with mental agony," alleged the heads of the two families.
When contacted, ADM Pitambar Samal said he had directed a probe into the matter.
