Former sarpanch of Bari in Jajpur district Benudhar Biswal (59) was arrested on Saturday for allegedly duping a Bhubaneswar-based businessman, Kausik Basu, of Rs 6 lakh promising the latter to provide him land.
According to the police, Biswal had promised Basu to provide five acres of land in the Badachana area of Jajpur district at Rs 22 lakh last year. Following the deal, Basu had paid an advance of Rs 6 lakh to Biswal.After a few months when Basu asked about the land, Biswal not only failed to provide land but also did not return the advance money. A worried Basu lodged a complaint at the Airfield police station.
