Vedanta Group chief Anil Agarwal, while posting a message on Tweeter on Tuesday, expressed deep concern over the hacking of palms of two labourers in Kalahandi district.
“It is paradox that Kalahandi, a bauxite and mineral-rich and labour intensive district in India, witnessed inhuman act of chopping off hands of labourers.” Agarwal tweeted. It may be noted that some miscreants chopped off the palms of two labourers simple because they refused to work with the contractors who hired them.
Even though the district is mineral rich with full of bauxite, graphite, manganese, iron and quartz, it lacks industrial growth. “Proper use of these minerals will certainly help poor people of the district grow steadfastly and the labour migration problem will be resolved completely,” a company Press release quoted Agarwal commenting.
Agarwal’s comment assumes significance as Vedanta refinery project at lanjigarh in the district is reportedly running short of bauxite.
