A 21-year old labourer drowned in luna river at lokanathpur Balighat under Cuttack district’s Nischintakoili police station on Sunday afternoon. According to sources, Ranjan Kumar Behera of Baliachaka under the Mahanga police station had gone to load sand in a truck from the balighat, running illegally by some sand mafias. The river current swept away him when he was taking bath.
His body, which could not be recovered from the river despite search by the fire brigade, was later found floating in the river at lokanathpur Malik Sahi. The body was sent to the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack for postmortem. Police have registered an unnatural death case.
