BJP State president Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, returning after a Statewide campaigning for the September Urban local Body (UlB) polls, on Tuesday castigated the ruling BJD for its poor performance in managing of UlBs.
The State Government does not have any comprehensive development plan in place for the urban bodies, he said.Singh Deo said the Minister of Urban Development has been changed four times in last four years. Many of the cities are facing acute problems of water supply and sewerage due to the half-implemented schemes.
He said the track record of the BJD-run urban bodies has been dismal. The few municipalities that were under the BJP had a good track record and were adjudged as the best-run ones and awarded by the Government. In 2009-10, the Patnagarh Municipality under the BJP was adjudged the best one in the State. The same municipality did a repeat performance the next year and was once again bestowed with the title.
Under the BJD, most of the municipalities are now in the hands of the contractor mafia. The work done is not people-oriented but only to fill the coffers of the officials and BJD members. The BJD may have foreseen defeat in the coming polls; hence it has resorted to browbeating by sheer muscle and money power along with the rampant use of official machinery, violating every rule in the book, Singh Deo alleged.
He claimed that there are many cases exposing the secret nexus between the BJD and the Congress. At such a juncture, the BJP is the only option left for people. Developments in the BJP-ruled States like Gujarat are known to everybody. Even the Odisha Government has signed an MoU to follow the Ahmadabad Urban Development, he said. However, the people of the State will give a befitting reply to the maladmisntration of the BJD and rout it in the local bodies’ elections.
