Pressing its demand to arrest the Kujang Block Development Officer for allegedly molesting a teenage girl while travelling in a private bus a week ago, the Kujang Swabhiman Mancha that includes all political parties observed a dawn-to-dusk Kujang Bandh on Tuesday.
The bandh received widespread public support, as a result of which shops and other business establishments and schools and colleges remained closed and vehicular movement on the Cuttack-Paradip State Highway stopped for some hours before police restored the traffic at noon.
The protestors demanded arrest of the BDO Ashok Kumar Mohanty and take legal action against him as per law.
However, the Kujang police maintained that the bandh had little impact. The police informed that a case has been registered against the BDO under Sections 354 and 509 IPC; and the statement of the victim girl has been recorded.
“We have started a haunt to pick up the BDO for interrogation, but he has gone underground after the incident. Police have taken the case seriously and the probe is undergoing due legal process,” said Kujang police station IIC Bichitra N Samal.
