'Krantidhara' portrays female character in a constructive way

She is a proverbial daughter-in-law that anyone can aspire to be. In a family of half a dozen individuals, the entire home-front is taken care of by her with diligence and compassion.
Apart from the elderly parents-in-law and two primary school-going children, Pratignya has the onerous task to reform her dishonest husband Abhay, who is a local sarpanch.
Abhay played by Samaresh and Pratignya by Gargi Mohanty are the protagonists in the Odia movie Krantidhara, which was screened at a hotel on Sunday.
Directed by Himanshu Khatua, the film is about Pati Sarapancha (Husbands of women Sarapanches) in the villages. The movie portrays women empowerment, including a woman character that is doing everything. She never avoids doing all household chores as a wife, mother, and daughter-in-law. When she is forced to do politics, she agrees and musters guts to face all challenges.
The male dominated society always creates a difference between male and female abilities, which is proved wrong in the movie. The director concludes the movie with the female protagonist sticking to her decision despite facing many difficulties.
“We have portrayed a female character in a very constructive manner, not as a feminist,” said director Himanshu Khatua, adding women should not be treated as toys. “The specialty of the movie is that for the first time we have used sync sound (synchronised sound recording) in Odisha which refers to sound recorded at the time of the filming of movies,” said Khatua.
The film was screened in the presence of Parbati Ghosh, veteran singer Prafulla Kar, Uttam Mohanty, Mihir Das, Malabika Ray, Budhaditya, Archita and many cinephiles.Produced by Kadambini Media Production, the movie has been written by Dr Iti Samant.
