Farmers of Koraput district on Monday met Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare (FS&CW) Secretary Madhusudan Padhi here and urged him to take steps for early release of their paddy dues pending with the Government for long.
According to them, more than 900 farmers are now moving from pillar to post to get their dues against 72,000 quintals of Rabi paddy procured through lAMPS (large Area Multipurpose Societies) months back.
They informed the Secretary that they have met the Koraput district Collector and lAMPS official many a times for the purpose, but in vain.
The farmers had also apprised former KBK Administrator Taradatt in this regard. While Taradatt had directed lAMPS and Civil Supply officials to release payments, yet not steps have been taken, they lamented.
They have also staged peaceful demonstrations a number of times demanding release of their dues. “We are spending very miserable life now. We have been fed up after moving here and there to get our legitimate dues,” said a farmer.
