Farmers of Koraput district on Monday blocked the NH-26 near the FCI office here demanding increase in procurement quantity per acre of both irrigated and non-irrigated land. Though paddy procurement started at the Mandi here on Wednesday, the farmers are yet to sell their paddy.

They have been demanding that the Government should increase the procurement quantity to 20 quintal per acre of irrigated land and to 18 quintal per an acre of non-irrigated land at minimum support price (MSP).

Following the strike, the district administration increased the procurement quantity to 20 quintal for irrigated land. However, it increased to 14 quintal for non-irrigated land. Sources said that the farmers are still unhappy and have decided not to sell their paddy.
