A group of tribals belonging to Narayanpatna block in Koraput district on Thursday urged the district Collector to take necessary steps to release innocent tribals languishing in jails.
The tribals, including women of the Narayanpatna area, gathered in front of the Collector’s office and submitted a memorandum to the Collector requesting him to take up the issue with the State Government.
The tribals, most of them belonging to the Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangh (CMAS), demanded early trial of cases and release of their men languishing in jails due to “false and fabricated cases” lodged by the police.
According to Jada Tadingi of Dumsil village under the Narayanpatna police limits, his brothers and villagers had been arrested in false cases. “My villagers are rotting in jails due to delay in trials and other reasons. Without committing any mistakes, they suffer a lot,” he added.
“In the absence of my husband, I’m living in a miserable condition with my children. How many days I will run my kitchen by selling firewood in the marketIJ” said a woman of Tumbaguda village with a heavy heart and added that the Government should take immediate steps to release her husband.
