The Pattamundai police in Kendrapada district arrested and court-forwarded a youth on charges of assaulting a woman Sarpanch and snatching away Government documents from her on Monday. According to Kendrapada SP Satish Kumar Gajbhiye, Andara gram panchayat Sarapanch Ambika Mallick was molested and assaulted by one Debendra Mallick as she hindered him from taking documents kept on a table at the panchayat office during a gram sabha.
The Sarpanch lodged an FIR at the Pattamundai PS in this regard. She too alleged that Debendra fled from the spot by taking some valuable documents and Rs630 from her purse after threatening to kill her. Debendra was produced before the JMFC court and later remanded to jail custody as his bail application was rejected on Tuesday, said police sources.
