K'pada woman harassed over voter I-Card correction

Published on:
Despite approaching the authorities thrice, a woman has failed to get some errors in her voter identity card rectified, thanks to the callous attitude of the former.
Chanchala Sahu (27), wife of Annada Prasad Sahu, a resident of Madhapur village under Ward no-10 of Kendrapada Municipality, had applied before the concerned authority to get her voter card. On January 5, she got the voter card but found that her husband’s name was not entered correctly.
“I brought the matter before the notice of the official engaged in voter identity card correction work. He advised me to apply in Form No-8,” said Sahu, whose voter card no is RIP465856. She obliged but to her dismay found that her photo was changed while the previous error was there. She once again applied by filling Form No 7 for changing the photo and erroneous name of her husband.
On July 1, 2013, she once again got a newly rectified voter card but this time though her husband name was corrected, the photo was not changed, alleged Sahu. In the recently concluded general elections, she faced difficulties in casting her vote. Not only that, as the voter identity card has become mandatory in several things, so she has been facing several problems, she said.
