The Kendrapada Town police on Tuesday registered a case against one Kamala Rout of Garjanpur under the Rajnagar police limits for allegedly duping the Union Bank of India of Rs2.5 crore that she had taken on loan from the bank.
Police said in March, 2006, Rout had taken the loan from the bank’s Kendrapada branch by mortgaging her Bhubaneswar-based land. So far, she has repaid only Rs16 lakh. However, with interest, Rout has to repay a sum of not less than Rs4 crore.
As Rout failed to provide the loan and interest amount, the bank filed a case against her at the Debt Recovery Tribunal. After an inquiry, it was found that Rout had also taken a loan from the State Bank of India, Bhubaneswar in 2006-07 by mortgaging the same land. As she failed to repay the loan, the SBI sold the land by inviting tender.
Union Bank of India, Kendrapara branch Manager Pramod Acharya lodged an FIR against Rout at the Kendrapara Town police station. Police have started investigation into the alleged matter, said PS IIC Sanjeev Mohanty.
