Having failed to get any assistance from the district administration, widow of deceased Niranjan Singh of Samagudia village under Sadar police station, who died after a self immolation bid before the Collectorate, on Tuesday knocked at the doors of the district Collector.
She, along with her three children, threatened to set her on fire if the Government does not fulfill its promises soon.
According to Ranjita Singh, the widow of Niranjan, the district administration earlier had promised to provide a volunteer job at the district headquarters hospital to her eldest daughter. Besides she alleged that no action had been taken against the accused, who are responsible for her husband’s self immolation.
The district administration had also assured to provide education to the duo minor children of her. Ranjita too demanded Rs 10 lakh as compensation holding the district administration responsible for her husband’s death.
Meanwhile, she and her children are staying at Anandapur in Keonjhar district at her father’s house as a fear to life is looming large over their head from her neighbours and in-laws at Samagudia. She urged the district Collector and police to take steps to provide her security.
When contacted, district Collector Muralidhar Mallik stated that earlier the district administration sought to provide widow pension to Ranjita, but she declined it by saying she would accept the widow pension provided all her demands were fulfilled.
The district administration had earlier assured the widow to enlist her family in National Family Welfare Scheme, but it could not happen as the family do not have BPl card.
For the same reason, she could not avail an IAY house either, said the Collector.
Collector Mallik also assured of taking all steps to fulfill promises made to the widow.
Notably, on November 12 last, the family members of deceased Niranjan had staged dharana by keeping the body in front of the district collectorate office pressing for various demands. Niranjan had taken the bid on life out of sheer desperation.
