The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has asked the Chief Secretary to address the plights of Ekamania, Nalapahi, Dakshinadiha villages in Kolidiha gram panchayat of Ali block in Kendrapada district within eight weeks.

After acting on the plight of Satabhaya residents the apex human rights watch dog also considered the present petition filed by noted rights activist Radhakanta Tripathy.

“Failure of Government in ensuring basic human rights of hundreds of villagers living in the above villages pose serious question of human rights. The villages are surrounded by Brahmani and Kharasrota rivers. The basic necessities of life like primary health centre, education facilities in its sense and spirit, communication facilities are not provided to these villagers. Janani Surakshya Yojana meant for providing services to the pregnant ladies and Ambulance services are denied to these unfortunate villagers. Construction of bridge and road for communication remains a dream till date for the villagers. Despite protests of villagers the government has not been caring for these basic human rights of these villagers,” Radhakanta alleged.

He urged the Commission to visit the villages and assess the plight of the villagers and direct the State Government to ensure the villagers the basic amenities of life including communication/transportation facilities.
