K'pada: Surmises galore ahead of counting

Published on:

As only hours remain for vote counting, a sea of excitement can be seen on the face of the denizens here.

Political affiliation apart, several people, who are interested in politics, are making predictions and coming out with several estimates for the parties. Be it party office, tea shop, mandi, betel shop or village bhagabat tungi, gossips are on pertaining to results.

Septuagenarian Madhusudan Behera of Santasahi said he has come across all general elections since its inception in 1952. “Till mid 70s, the electioneering was not so exciting. But things have changed since then and everybody is interested in politics these days,” he said.

Not that all voters can be won over by doles. The ecstasy remains till the counting day due to the media publicity, said a few persons here.

“Even my grandchildren, who do not have anything to do with polls because of underage, seem passionate. This is only due to the impact of poll results-oriented programme being aired on televisions,” said Nabaghan Bhoi (75) of Baurisahi.

Would the Congress, which never won since 1957, able to create history by winning the Kendrapara lok Sabha seat this timeIJ Could Congress candidate Dharanidhar Nayak create history by winning from the anti-Congress bastion or the NaMo mantra would help the BJP candidate win the seatIJ Would the millionaire BJD MP candidate Baijayant Panda manage to maintain the winning spreeIJ Can veteran Bijoy Mohapatra make it to the Assembly this time on the ‘lotus’ symbol by defeating stalwart  BJD candidate Atanu Sabyasachi NayakIJ Whether late Nalini Mohanty’s son Ansuman would win from his home turf at Rajnagar AssemblyIJ Would Pratap Deb able to win from his home turf Aul Assembly seat by defeating his arch rival Debendra SharmaIJ These imaginary puzzles continue to haunt one

and all.
