K'pada students trek 12 km to meet DM

Nearly 30 students, who were studying in Plus Two at Baro-based Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, on Monday trekked 12 km to reach the Kendrapada district Collector to lodge a complaint against their PET teacher for misbehaviour.

The students alleged before Collector Debaraj Senapati and SP Nitinjeet Singh that PET teacher Amulya Kumar Jena uses to force them to massage his body at his residence.

If a student refuses to do so, the PET would torture him physically.

They also alleged that Jena had assaulted student Ansuman Rout as he reached the playground late on September 30. Ansuman was injured and is currently undergoing treatment, the students informed the Collector and the SP.

They alleged that the school is providing substandard meals and has not given them uniform and other accessories for a few years now.

The students demanded that the Collector suspend the PET teacher and the Principal soon.

When contacted, Navodaya Vidyalaya Principal Parvati Pradhan said the allegations are baseless.

However, the Collector said that he has directed Sub-Collector Kahnu Charan Dhir and Pattamundai SDPO to conduct an inquiry into the students' allegations.
