District Collector Pramod Kumar Das on Wednesday held sarpanch election of Siko Gram Panchayat under Rajkanika block as invalid. An inquiry found that sarpanch Jitendra Behera had allegedly furnished fake caste certificate during the filing of nomination papers. According to official sources, Behera had allegedly filed his nomination papers for the sarpanch post that was reserved for Scheduled Caste by allegedly submitting a fake caste certificate during the three tier gram panchayat election in 2012. He won the poll. Defeated candidate Fakira Charan Das filed a petition in court of Rajkanika Tehsildar and later in the High Court challenging the election. The High Court adjudging the case had directed the district Collector of Kendrapada to take action on the alleged case.
