The Town police here detained Pratap Chandra lenka, manager of Innovative Micro Credit Cooperative Society, a chit fund company, for duping investors of `3.17 lakh.
A woman agent with the help of locals on Saturday night nabbed the lenka and handed over him to the police, informed Town police station IIC Sanjeev Mohanty.
According to Mohanty, one Banalata Das , a resident of Dhenkanal district, who has been residing at Tinimuhani area, was working as an agent for the Innovative Micro Credit Co-operative Society. Manager of the chit fund firm Pratap Chandra lenka lured gullible people through her to deposit their hard earned money on the pretext of doubling the money.
Though, Banalata umpteen times demanded before lenka to return `3.17 lakh but in vain. lenka was found moving at Old Bus stand area, when Banalata nabbed him with the help of locals and handed over to police. She also lodged an FIR against lenka.
Meanwhile, lenka confessed to the crime. IIC Mohanty said that the complainant and the accused were sent to the Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch for further inquiry.
