A poor mason’s son obtained 403 rank in All India Preliminary Medical Test (AIPMT) 2014 organised by the Central Board of Secondary Education.
M Girija Shankar (19), the only child of Minaketan Barik and Kabita Barik of Chhanda village under Santhapura, got the rank in the AIPMT, the result of which was published on Saturday.
“There is no shortcut to success. If you have strong will power then you will achieve success despite all odds,” said Girija, when asked about the key to his success. He dedicated his success to the family members and thanked almighty. Girija stated that his mother motivated him from childhood to become a doctor.
Girija said that since he hails from a mason family, it was always difficult on part of his parents to arrange money for his study. Often, they had to go for borrowing.
Girija did his HSC from the local Saraswati Vidya Mandir and +2 Science from the Kendrapara College. He was preparing for AIPMT at the Bhubaneswar-based Akash Institute. “My aim is to be a heart surgeon and I would help the poor patients,” said Girija.
