The Mahakalpada police arrested three persons in two different cases of killing and dowry death committed at separate villages in Kendrapada district on Tuesday.

In one incident, one Arabinda Samal of Rajagada village allegedly killed his wife Snehamayee (24) and attempted to burn the body to give an impression that she died in a fire accident. However, the police seized the half-burnt body and arrested the accused.

IIC Padarbinda Tripathy said Arabinda reportedly killed Snehamayee Samal (24) over a family feud and took an attempt to burn her body with kerosene in order to wipe out the evidence. Snehamayee’s father Ram Chandra Nayak has lodged a complaint to this effect, he said.

The deceased is survived with her 11-year-old girl and a five-year-old son. In another incident, a newlywed woman, Manasi Mohanty of Kanpur village, committed suicide by hanging on Tuesday night.

The police have arrested Manasi’s husband and father-in-law on the charges of giving dowry torture to her, informed Tripathy. The cases of voilence against women have increased in the State over years.
