In a brutal incident, a 24-year-old woman of a village under the Kendrapada Sadar police station was stabbed and attacked with acid by her husband on Wednesday night.
With severe injuries, she has been admitted in the DHH here.
Sudarshan Das (30) and his wife Saritha of Naranpur had been staying in Chennai for the last four months. They were not in good terms there as Sudarsan was suspecting Sarita of having extramarital affairs and was torturing her.
On Wednesday, they reached the Cuttack railway station to see Sarita’s ailing mother.
From Cuttack, Sudarshan took her to Kujanga railway station and asked to spend night at Kujanga.
When she insisted to go to Naranpur, Sudarshan hired an auto-rickshaw to the village. But he asked the driver to leave them at a place, 500 meters away from his village.
Then, Sudarshan took Sarita to a dark place near the Ayeba Science College and asked her to sit there. Soon he threw acid on her and stabbed her with a knife.
However, she managed to escape from the spot.
She shouted for help and told everything to locals gathered there. Villagers then admitted her in the District Headquarters Hospital and informed the Sadar police.
The police nabbed Sudarsan from near Ortaghat Bazar while he was trying to flee from the area.
Sarita lodged an FIR at Kendrapada Sadar police station against her husband on Thursday. “The police have registered a case and arrested Sudarshan on charge attempting to kill his wife,” informed IIC Biranchi Bag.
