After the health service was disrupted on Friday due to non-availability of doctor in a Government–run-hospital, the locals locked it up in protest. The incident took place at Mahakalapada Community Hospital Centre. The doctor of the hospital was found absent on Friday. As a result, the patients, who came from remote areas of Mahakalapada block, returned without getting treatment. Being irate over the fact, locals along with the attendants of patients locked the hospital gates. The irate locals even denied the para-medical staff to enter into the hospital to perform their duty.
locals alleged that the Mahakalapada CHC was running with a single doctor. Dr Manoj Kumar Panda is overburdened. He is assisted by five staff nurses, three attendants and about six sweepers.
Every day, around 50 patients come for treatment at OPD whereas about 4 to 5 pregnant women get admission. Though in last one and a half years, several doctors have been appointed at the CHC but within 10 to 15 days of their joining in the Mahakalpada CHC, they shifted to other places. Several times, the locals brought the problem to the notice of the people’s representatives but in vain.
When contacted, CDMO Dr Binayak Prusty said the only doctor of the CHC went to his house as his father was sick.
