Here is a high school where every year students enrol their names to study in class IX and X, but surprisingly, not a single teacher is appointed to teach the students. Still, in the recently published HSC results, 39 students out of 42 have cleared.
The sea-erosion prone Satabhaya based school is different. Here the School and Mass Education (SME) Department has not appointed a single teacher.According to the locals, only Panchubarahi Nodal UP School exists in the panchayat. The students depend on the lone school to provide their wards with primary education up to class VII.
The locals had appealed to the authorities for a high school but it was not sanctioned for long years. After much dillydallying, the State Government on August 29, 2012 had directed the district Education Department to upgrade the Panchubarahi Nodal UP School under the Rastriya Shikhsa Mission and provided an opportunity to the students to go for high school studies.
later, it became Panchubarahi upgraded Government High School. But ironically, though three years are going to be completed, but the District Education Department has failed to engage a teacher for the high school.According to Jhunubala Pradhan, a class X student, as there was no alternative, they were forced to study in the school. If they would not study in the school, then they would remain under-matric, she said.
Though there were guidelines under Rashtriya Shiksa Mission to provide all the basic amenities along with providing teachers to the school, but the school remains neglected. When contacted, District Education Officer (DEO) Markatkeshari Ray stated that the State Government had directed to open four schools under the Rashtriya Shiksa Mission, including the Panchubarahi School at Satabhaya.
The schools were opened in Ekamania, Chandannagar, Satabhaya and Matipada. While, teachers were posted at Ekamania, Chandannagar and Matiapada, no post of teachers were created for Panchubarahi school as yet, he stated.
