Irate over the misbehaviour of police personnel at the Marshaghai police station in Kendrapada district, one Chameli Ojha of Tikhiri village along with her parents staged a dharna before the District Collectorate on Thursday demanding stern action against a police officer after conducting a judiciary inquiry. Chameli alleged that when she had gone to the police station seeking justice after being assaulted by Tikhiri gram panchayat Sarpanch Sanjukta Behera, her son Dipak Behera and six other anti-socials, an ASI of the police station misbehaved her.
When Chameli brought the matter to the notice of the district SP, the latter assured her to conduct an inquiry and provide her justice, but in vein. Even, the girl had appraised the district Collector and the sub-Collector about the incident and threatened to sit on dharna on March 30, following which the sub-Collector had directed the Marshaghai police station IIC to conduct an inquiry. Being failed to get justice even after her repeated appeals, the girl staged dharna. However, the dharna was withdrawn after the district administration assured them to provide justice to them by conducting a DSP-level inquiry into the alleged matter. The girl has also demanded arrest of the Sarpanch and her son.
