Though cyclonic storm Hudhud did not have any considerable impact on Kendrapada district as a whole, Rajnagar block was hit to certain extent as sea went turbulent with tidal water surge causing erosion in Pentha and Satabhaya areas.
The sea crawled menacingly at a height of nearly 100 feet towards human habitation at Satabhaya after washing away sand bags forming a saline embankment, said Aul Saline Embankment executive engineer Jugal Kishore Tripathy. A 30-foot erosion occurred at an embankment at Pentha as well, he said.
On Monday, the senior officials of Aul Saline Embankment accessed the situation at Satabhaya.
Executive Engineer Tripathy said, “Within a day or two the breach repair work would commence at Satabhaya. But the worry is sand dunes that helped check sea erosion, were affected.”
