K'pada denizens panicky as criminals call the shots

Published on:

It seems the coastal Kendrapara district has become a safe haven for criminals. loot, burglary, oraganised attack and murder have become the order of the day in recent past. But the police are clueless to nab the culprits. As a result, the residents are living amid panic.

The women are now feeling insecure. They are reluctant to wear jewelleries outside home even in daytime as snatchings have become rampant.

It is said that while most of the hardcore criminals of warring gangs are behind the bar, the lesser gang members are active and committing the crimes by giving the cops a slip.

If sources are to be believed, a Patkura based private channel TV reporter was allegedly attacked brutally on Tuesday night last by two motorbike-borne miscreants and later the duo robbed him of his camera, mike, ID, cash of Rs2,000, a cheque amounting

Rs5,000 while he was returning to his house. But though over a week has passed to the incident, the Patkura police are still groping in the dark so far as nabbing the miscreants

is concerned.

Similarly in a broad daylight crime that occurred on Thursday last, some miscreants looted 100 gram of gold ornaments and Rs50,000 cash from the house of one Sanjay Kumar Nayak, an economics lecturer of Chandol College at Kapaleswar village just behind the SP residence, while nobody was present in the house. Though a couple of days have passed, the police are clueless in the dacoity incident.

Similarly, every now and then, extortion and gold chain snatching incidents have been occurring in the Kendrapara township area and its adjoining localities. But the police have failed to nab the thugs.

Though a couple of murder cases occurred in past months, but police have failed to nab the prime accused. One Ranjey Jena(40), son-in-law of Dharanidhar Jena, who was sleeping at the veranda of his father-in law’s house at Chatara Chakroda village on May 16 night last, was killed.

Julia alias Sanjay Jena , a fellow villager, with the help of his father-in-law , Gurucharan Jena, slit throat of Ranjey. But more than one and a half months have been passed while the police are yet to nab the prime accused Julia.

Similarly, in 19-year-old Mahesh Das murder case, prime accused Happy is giving police the slip for the last two months. In yet another case, Aul police have failed to nab the prime accused in the BJD supporter Ranjit Nayak murder case.

The locals have alleged that criminals are moving scot-free and committing crime in regular intervals, thanks to their unholy nexus with

the police.

When contacted Kendrapara SP Rabi Narayan Behera stated that a haunt is on to nab the criminals against whom criminal cases are pending.
