Protesting against the callous attitude of the Kendrapada Municipality authority in providing better sanitation facility, sewerage, garbage disposal and road maintenance, councillor of ward no-14 Sk Hifjur Raheman approached the district Collector on Monday and urged him to take steps. He threatened to sit on fast unto death in front of the municipality office, if his concerns were ignored.
Hygiene and sanitation measures seem to have apparently taken a backseat in Kendrapada Municipality. Heaps of garbage and waste can be seen lying everywhere on the roads. Several public utility and infrastructure development projects have not been executed. The mosquito control drive has come to a halt for a long time. There is a total absence of a sanitation mechanism in the township. The atmosphere is unhealthy because of rotting garbage strewn hither and thither.
The municipal authorities have failed to discharge their duty. There is no sign of the solid waste management treatment plant that was supposed to be set up for disposal of biodegradable waste. Though land has been earmarked for it, the treatment plant is yet to come up. The stench emanating from the garbage heaps is making life miserable. And the municipal authorities are watching silently as residents suffer, alleged Raheman.
The Khadianga-Medical road, old bus stand –Khadianga road and Kacheri-district collectorate road are in bad shapes. They need urgent repair work, he lamented.
