The main road of Kendrapada Municipality from Tinimuhani to Ichhapur is lying in dilapidated conditions. Continuous neglect has made the matter worse. The water accumulating on the roads takes days together to recede due to lack of drainage outlets and in some places due to chocked drains, passage of water is prevented. Even a half an hour of moderate rainfall maroons low-lying areas of the town.
The main road has become accident prone with many potholes. Even in a slight drizzle, the locals face a lot of problems to ply on the main road as the ditches on the road turns into mini ponds at Santasahi,
Khadianaga, Jaypura madhial, Urdu Bazar, Badat, Kakat, New Bus Stand and Mahipal Chowk areas.
The road connecting from the Kendrapada High School to Garapur is also in tatters. The road is littered with ditches. Every day, the District Collector plies to his office on the road, but yet no step is taken to repair the road. Most of the time, water logging problem occurs near the Collectorate.
Though umpteen times, the locals of the Kendrapada township area have urged the district administration, the ruling party MP, MlA and the chairman of the Kendrapada civic body to repair the main road, but in vain, said sources.
The main road apart, one can come across the open drains, potholed roads and water logging problems in most of the wards due to the unplanned and unauthorized structures. The municipality has not only failed in disposing of waste, but it is yet to put in place a proper sewerage and drainage network. The drains, which are full of dumped garbage, lie clogged resulting in filthy water overtopping the roads.
The civic body generally fails to clear the heap of waste and garbage in regular intervals, locals alleged.
On the other hand, the practice of looting the Government doles by making sub-standard repair works of the arterial roads and various lanes has been going unabated.
The BJD leaders had mouthed promises during the last election to fulfill the basic amenity needs of the municipality but, ironically, they failed to deliver, lamented the residents.
When contacted, Municipality chairman Dhiren Kumar Sahu said, "The authority provided charge to the R&B Department for maintenance of the main road. In 2012, the department also submitted a proposal to construct the concrete road at an estimated cost of Rs 7.50 crore. The tender process was organized but due to some technical problems, the tender was rejected by the law department. So it caused the delay.
However, now, the R&B Department has once again started the tender process."
