K'pada child death takes new turn

The death of a two-and-a-half-month-old child at Chasakhanda village under Kendrapada district’s Derabish police station took a new turn as the mother of the child has lodged an FIR alleging that her elder sister-in-law killed her son by pushing him into a basket full of water.

Earlier, it was stated that the child died as a simian had taken it to a tree and threw it down. Mother Manjulata Sahu alleged in the FIR that while she on Thursday morning was in the kitchen to prepare breakfast, her husband Nrushingha Charan Sahu, two elder sisters-in-law Sasmita Moharana and  Subashini Sahu were present in the house where her son was sleeping.

After her husband went to agriculture field, Sasmita came to her in the kitchen and said the child was missing. Then, she along with Sasmita found the child lying unconscious at a basket full of water.

Manjulata alleged that her sister in-law killed her son due to dowry and property disputes as they used to torture her since she came to the house after marriage.

On Thursday night, the Derabish police detained the husband of the complainant, her two elder sisters-in-law for interrogation,” said IIC Niranjan Sabar.

On Friday, the Derabish police dug out the body from the burial ground and sent it for autopsy.
