The death toll in the Kendrapada boat capsize incident rose to two as one Sahadev Samal (35), who had rescued some victims by swimming in the Bhanduanal rivulet, died on Sunday.
Sources said Sahadev of Okilapala village fell sick on Saturday midnight and rushed to the Gupti PHC where doctors referred him to the Rajnagar PHC. He died on the way to CHC. Though the reason behind Sahadev’s death was yet to be ascertained, some hospital people suspected that he had eosonophyles and became seriously ill after hours-long exposure to water.
Notably, a mechanized boat, which was engaged to carry evacuees of Satabahaya gram panchyat people, had capcized in the rivulet on Saturday. An eight-year-old gird drowned and a minor boy went missing, who was still to be traced.
