The Patkura police on Friday rescued Ganeswar Kundu, son of a BJP Zilla Parishad (ZP) member candidate in Kendrapada district, who was allegedly kidnapped on Wednesday night.
He was rescued by the cops from a river embankment at Tarapur in Jagatsinghpur district, reports said.
According to Kendrapada SP Dayanidhi Gochhait, as per the preliminary inquiry, it was not a case of abduction but a kidnapping plot scripted by the youth and his family members with an aim to get sympathy votes in the by-poll held in eight wards of Ramchandrapur GP on Friday following violence during Wednesday polloing.
Ganeswar, son of ZP zone no 10 candidate Savitri Kundu, had gone out for poll campaigning on Wednesday. However, he went missing after 9 pm as his family members could not know his whereabouts.
His father Shiva Prasad Kundu had lodged a complaint in this regard with the Patkura police.
Ganeswar’s motorcycle had been abandoned on the Tikanpur Road in Kendrapada. Besides, his mobile phone was recovered from a nearby crop field.
