Koraput ZP meeting ends on dramatic note

The 43rd Koraput Zilla Parishad meeting ended on a dramatic note here Thursday with Congress MlAs staging a walkout protesting nonpayment of paddy dues and BJD leaders remaining present till completion of meeting.

Notably, the last Zilla Parishad meeting was ended in a sensational manner as Congress MlAs, including Tara Prasad Bahinipati, had an argument with district administration officials.

Expecting such disruption, the administration arranged tight security at the meeting on Thursday.

As the meeting began, Bahinipati agitated in front of the meeting hall demanding immediate release of payment to farmers against the 72,000 quintals of paddy procured in June 2015.

“Already five months have passed but the farmers are yet to get their dues despite repeated requests. We want the farmers be paid their dues immediately,” shouted Bahinipati.

After a few minutes, Congress leaders entered the meeting hall and started blaming the Collector for non-payment of the farmers’ dues and for other issues.

As, amidst Congress members’ sloganeering, two BJD MPs, Zilla Parishad president and other PRIs members started discussing other issues in the presence of the Collector, Bahinipati termed the meeting as meant for BJD leaders only and came out of the meeting. Soon other Congress members followed him.

They also staged a rally shouting slogans against the administration and the State Government.

The meeting continued till evening and many development plans and projects discussed in details.
