The Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy on Wednesday informed that it has launched a scheme for 100-per cent solar power supply for the Konark Sun Temple and Konark town.
The scheme envisages a 10-MW grid-connected solar project and various solar off-grid applications such as solar trees and solar drinking water kiosks.
Power and New & Renewable Energy Minister RK Singh reportedly said the scheme has been launched to take forward Prime Minister Modi’s vision to develop the Sun Temple town of Konark as ‘Surya Nagri’ to convey a message of synergy between the modern use of solar energy and the ancient Sun Temple and the importance of promoting solar energy.
The project envisages a 100-per cent financial assistance of about Rs 25 crore from the Central Government. Implementation of the project would be undertaken by the Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA).
