K'nagar Visa Steel plant reopened

The Visa Steel plant in the Kalinganagar industrial hub of Jajpur district was reopened after a month on Tuesday. The State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) had closed the plant on November 18.
“We had sealed the plant for noncompliance with the provisions of the Air (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1981. Before closing the plant, we had issued the plant authorities notices twice to build an effluent treatment plant (ETP). But the plant officials did not obey our
order. However recently, the plant officials rectified all their wrongs, for which after inspection on December 4, we allowed them to resume work,” said SPCB Regional Officer Dr Anup Mallick.
labour union leader Jyotirmaya Dhal thanked the district administration, the Visa Steel authorities and the SPCB for playing their roles in reopening of the plant.
