Jalandhar Nayak, aged 45, has himself begun constructing a road to his forest clad hilly village here. Four families were living at Gumi village under Tudipaju Panchayat of Phulbani block years back. But, due to scarcity of water, electricity, health and communication facilities, three families left the village.
Jalandhar was left alone with his old father, wife and three sons. They are reading in an ashram school and stay in hostel. However, Jalandhar was determined not to leave his village and his parental property. Since the village has no road communication, one has to either cross the Badapilasalki river of Putudi or walk through maintains to reach outside.
Undaunted by the deficiencies, Jalandhar decided to make a road to his village by cutting the mountains. Though it was utterly difficult, yet due to his steely resolve, within two years, he could cut the mountain and hopes to complete the road within five years.
He is cultivating vegetables and selling them in Phulbani market for the livelihood of his family.
