Activists of the Navanirman Krushak Sanghthan on Thursday staged a day-long silence-cum-fasting protest in front of the office of the State DGP here condemning the brutal police firing on innocent tribal people in Kandhamal district.
Holding placards with several slogans written on them, the activists staged the dharna covering their mouths with black ribbons at the police headquarters here from 10 am in the morning to late in the evening.
While the main banner under which the dharna took place read a demand seeking immediate dismissal of the Southern Range IG and the Kandhamal SP, the placards were full of anti-police and anti-Government slogans.
One of the placards demanded that the Chief Minister visit the spot of the firing and seek an apology from the local people over the police firing, in which five persons, including an infant, died and seven others were injured.
