The Kosal Kranti Dal (KKD) on Wednesday congratulated Atabira MlA Nihar Ranjan Mahanand for his decision to speak in Kosli language on the floor of the State Assembly.
Kosal Kranti Dal (KKD) working president Baidyanath Mishra told reporters here that the Kosal Kranti Dal (KKD) has been consistently demanding before the State Government to grant a second official language status to Kosli, which is spoken by more than 1.5 crore people of western Odisha, but the Government is astonishingly silent on this issue.
Thousands of books starting from children’s literature to Ramayana and Mahabharata have been written by Kosli authors which is a testimony by itself about the richness of the language. The Government is striving hard for recognition of Odia as a classic language whereas Kosli of western Odisha is treated disdainfully, Mishra rued. He further expressed his hope that the other MlAs of the Kosal area would also start speaking in Kosli in the Assembly and support the longstanding demand for giving it an official language status.
