With the general elections approaching fast, the Koshal Kranti Dal (KKD) has expedited its process of constituting ‘Koshal Panchayats’ in the Narla Assembly constituency in Kalahandi district.
As many as eleven panchayats have already been formed, and for the remaining 51 panchayats February 22 has been fixed as the deadline, said KKD working president Baidyanath Mishra here on his return from yet another 10-day tour of the Narla constituency.
During his last itinerary, four panchayats at Tuundla, Kasrupada, Karme and Sargiguda were formed with fixation of formation dates for six more panchayats in Kesinga block, said Mishra. He also addressed meetings in Parelsinga and Belkhandi panchayats of the same block.
“A KKD team is trying hard to complete the task within the deadline, following which the west Odisha outfit will go in for a Koshal Mahapanchayat at the district headquarters town of Bhawanipatna, where around 500 members representing 62 panchayats of the Narla Assembly constituency will elect their candidate for the ensuing election.” Mishra said.
This would be an ideal democratic approach with voters at the grassroots level electing their candidate for an Assembly constituency, and this experiment would be a lesson for those political parties whose candidates are selected by their high commands,” said Mishra, adding that his next two trips to the Narla constituency would be of a 15-day duration ending on February 22. That would complete the organisational work in Narla. The first-phase election campaign would be for one month from February 24 to end of March followed by a second and final phase before election, added Mishra.
